Driving

Driving in Spain presents no real problem - of course you have to drive on the right !!!  However, insurance might cause a problem.  At the moment you may only have limited time fully comprehensive cover if you have a UK car with UK insurance.  We risked driving our reasonably new car with only third party cover for most of our stay in Spain.  It is a nightmare to re-register the car in Spain and insure it with a Spanish company not least because you have to declare yourself a resident. If you are planning a short stay of a year or so in Spain I would suggest not taking a brand new or nearly new car because the risk of a loss in case of accident cannot be properly covered by insurance.

On the spot fines are the norm for speeding - I got one - but fortunately no points.

Accidents happen and no less so in Spain.  One thing I really noticed was accidents on Sundays when people were driving back from family gatherings.  I think people were falling asleep at the wheel.
